I have been wearing jeans, black 'Simple' sneakers, knee high wool ski socks and an alternating top for about 2-3 weeks now! I totally repeat at work: 1. It's work I want to look nice and professional but it's a surf company (nuf said). 2. It's cold. 3. I spec wetsuits on my hands and knees, thus comfort and less skin is important! 4. It's cold.
Indeed! I have the same 4-5 outfits that I rotate to wear at school. They have to be functional, like you T, because I am also on the floor a lot with my kids, cutting paper, using glue, etc., but I also want to look professional for meetings with other teachers and I think it's important for a career. Jackie's mom told me that she has always remembered her 2nd grade teacher b/c she dressed nicely everyday, and even as a 2nd grader, that made Mrs. McManus feel good! I have 2 pairs of corduroys and 2 pairs of slacks, and then jeans for Friday! I wear my Simples or the new Converse All Stars that I got from my sis for Christmas!
"Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary" - Cecil Beaton
OFFICIAL RULES
In general participants should not buy any NEW clothing for 1 year, May 1, 2008 - May 1, 2009. However being that clothing is one of the 3 staples of life we had to make the following exceptions:
1. New Undies, Bras, Boxers, Boxer Briefs, etc. may be purchased.
2. Thrift shopping is allowed but you may not go HOG WILD! This rule is still under negotiation.
3. Participants may buy 2 new tee shirts and tank tops during the duration of the year.
4. 1 swimsuit purchase is allowed.
5. Beanies, reef booties, harnesses, ect. are not included.
6. Technical Gear
a. Due to the amount of oudoorsy junkies making this journey technical clothing (i.e. jackets, shells, thermals, fleece, wetsuits, etc.) are allowed as long as you follow point b.
b. Technical gear shall only be bought if ones comfort is being compromised. For instance a tear is causing you to be rained on or an old thin thermal no longer retains warmth.
c. No Pro-deals -If your gear completely malfunctions and is totally useless then you can get something new ....but no pro deals just b/c you can get em!! [Samantha]
7. Sewing is allowed.
a. No new fabric can be bought unless it falls under point b.
b. New fabric is only allowed if you need it for business purposes.
c. Vintage fabric can be bought from places like Goodwill, Thrift, etc.
Retail therapy is shopping with the primary purpose of improving the buyer's mood or disposition. (1) Often seen in people during periods of depression or transition, it is normally a short-lived habit. Items purchased during periods of retail therapy are sometimes referred to as "comfort buys."
Buyer's remorse is an emotional condition whereby a person feels remorse or regret after a purchase. It is frequently associated with the purchase of higher value items which could be considered "bad" although it may also stem from a sense of not wishing to be "wrong". In an extreme situation, an individual who struggles with or cannot accept the possibility that they may have made a mistake, may be suffering from a more serious and severe condition that has truly little to do with "buyer's remorse".
Post-purchase rationalization - is a common phenomenon after people have invested a lot of time, money, or effort in something to convince themselves that it must have been worth it. Many decisions are made emotionally, and so are often rationalized retrospectively in an attempt to justify the choice
